May 24
Friday, May 19 Expired - Sunday, May 21

The Global Shapers Kathmandu Hub has announced that it will be hosting SHAPE South Asia 2023, an event aimed at “Shaping Climate Resiliency towards a Great Himalayan Future for All” for Global Shapers communities in South Asia. The event scheduled for May 19-21 is expected to be attended by 120 young leaders from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, and hubs around the world.

SHAPE South Asia is a regional event created by Shapers, for Shapers. “The event aims to create a forum for young leaders from diverse backgrounds to come together and discuss the impact of climate change on the region, including its intersection with issues such as poverty, health, education, and gender disparity,” a press statement issued by the Global Shapers Kathmandu Hub quoted Gunjan Ghimire, an organizing member, as saying.

During the event, Shapers from diverse hubs will participate in interactive sessions and workshops to promote knowledge-sharing and collaborative problem-solving. The event will also showcase innovative solutions and technologies developed by participants and highlight success stories of climate-resilient communities.

Saurabh Shah, the Curator of Kathmandu Hub, said the SHAPE will discuss a shared vision for green & resilient development in South Asia as well as strengthen regional bonds and level up capacity to accelerate change.

The organizer said the event will result in a set of actionable recommendations that will be shared with policymakers, researchers, and practitioners in the region to promote sustainable development and resilience to climate change in the Himalayan region.

A series of discussions organized on the sideline of the SHAPE involving experts, stakeholders, and environmentalists to enhance understanding of climate resilience. “The current threat of climate change to the development of South Asian countries highlights the need for regional cooperation among youth leaders to create a shared vision for sustainable and resilient development in the region,” the statement quoted Mega Maskey, who is leading the Green Shapers project in Kathmandu, Hub, as saying.
